DELSON – March 23, 2019 – The municipalities of the riding of La Prairie will find their way into the last federal budget passed last Tuesday by Finance Minister Bill Morneau. B
reaking the table of the various measures introduced in the last budget, the hon. Member for La Prairie and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Jean-Claude Poissant, was pleased to note that an amount of 2, $ 2 billion will be paid to municipalities through the federal Gas Tax Fund.
This amount should respond positively to local infrastructure needs. It should be noted that Quebec municipalities received more than $ 504 million under the fund in 2018-2019. This amount is expected to double in the next fiscal year.
Mr. Poissant also applauded the government’s commitment to invest up to $ 1.7 billion over 13 years to provide broadband Internet access to all Canadians, reducing the gap between the two. rural and urban communities.
The 2019 budget provides that 95% of households will have access to the Internet for a visit of at least 50 Mbps by 2026 and 100% by 2030.
“The good news is that the Brancher innovate program will be renewed, which should significantly improve the situation, especially in rural areas,” noted Mr. Poissant.
